Estoy coleccionando objetos y registrandolos visualmente.

Cada objeto nace con un intención, una utilidad. Por lo tanto, durante la vida de un objeto, el objeto puede perder su intención original para existir en el mundo. Por ejemplo: Cuando vemos un nuevo bolso de te, lo consideramos en como lo vamos a usar: nos proveerá con una taza de te, pasaremos unos minutos bebiendo el te, y entonces, el bolso es de tirar. No se puede reusarlo. Ya ha estado usado. Su intención ha sido cumplido y ahora está sin utilidad práctica. Podemos nombrar un infinidad de cosas que pierden su intención original. ¿Y qué le queda el objeto? El objeto deja de ser útil, y se convierte en puro objeto, en una forma, una figura, una cosa tangible que no sirve para nada. El objeto se convierte en algo del pasado. Tiene una historia, aunque pueda ser muy banal. Existe ahora como un memento de una experiencia pasado. Y eso es la evolución de un objeto a través del tiempo.

Estoy haciendo una colección de objetos sin uso, con intenciones perdidas. Ponerlos en un nuevo contexto, doy a cada objeto, un nuevo significado en relación con los otros. Cita de Walter Benjamín (Illuminations, trans. Harry Zohn): “To renew the old world – that is the collector’s deepest desire.” Lo que hace una colección a un objeto, es de darle una nueva vida. Cada objeto no tiene nada que ver con otro. Su única conexión es que dejan de tener una intención.

“Santiago Ramón y Cajal (1852-2003) Ciencia y Arte”: “Para Santiago Ramón y Cajal ‘El buen dibujo como la buena preparación microscópica, son pedazos de la realidad, documentos científicos que conservan indefinidamente su valor…’” A través del dibujo, estoy investigando lo que queda de cada objeto: su forma, su calidad física, su textura, su tamaño, etc. Los dibujos son realizados con mucho detalle. Cada dibujo está realizado en una hoja de papel del mismo tamaño que los otros. Los imágenes están colocados en el papel para que tengan un espacio vacío y blanco, alrededor, para que los dibujos floten en un espacio neutro, fuera de sus contextos habituales. Tengo diez-once dibujos hasta ahora, y quiero tener muchos más para dar un idea de cantidad, y de más tiempo. El trabajo de dibujar, la calidad dibujistica muestra un proceso que exige mucho tiempo. Esta sensación de tiempo de ejecución está reflejado en la evolución de la vida de cada objeto.

Los objetos aparecen a las cosas que uno puede encontrar en la calle, en la playa, en tu apartamento, en cualquier sitio. En otras palabras- basura, junk, inutil. A través del largo de nuestras vida, todos acumulamos basura, cosas que llenan nuestros apartamentos y casas. Lo más tiempo que vivimos en un lugar, las más cosas que adquirimos. Estas cosas, esta “basura”, en un sentido mide el paso del tiempo. Mi intención es de crear una sensación del paso de tiempo con un registro visual de esta “basura”.

Cuando miramos los dibujos, intentamos poner un orden al caos. (Miguel Angel Ramos- “orden es una herramienta humana.”) Intentaremos darles sentido. Los objetos cuentas historias del pasado, o crean dudas o preguntas sobre el pasado. Refieren a un tiempo perdido, que nunca volverá. Con esto, espero crear un sentido de nostalgia.

Todavía el plan para el montaje no ha sido resuelto. Hay varias opciones. Yo podría ponerlos en la pared, intentando cubrir lo más espacio de la pared posible. O yo podría crear una tabla o estantería donde los dibujos estarían colocados detrás de un vidrio como los especimenes de un experimento científico.

Collecting, Drawing, Objects


I am collecting objects and visually recording them.

Every object is created with a purpose, a use. However, during the objects life, the object can loose its original purpose for existing in the world. For example: When we view an unused tea bag, we consider it in terms of how we shall use it: it will provide us with a cup of tea, we will spend a few minutes drinking the tea, and then, the bag is disposable. It cannot be reused. It has been used, it served its purpose and now is useless. We can name countless things that loose their original intention. And what remains of them, are their shape, form, and physicality. The object is converted into something from the past. It has a history, even if it is a banal one. It exists now as a memento of a past experience. And this is an object’s evolution.

I am collecting objects that have no use, whose original purposes have been lost. By placing them in a new context, I am giving them a new meaning in relation to one another. Walter Benjamin (Illuminations, trans. Harry Zohn): “To renew the old world – that is the collector’s deepest desire.” What a collection does to an object, is give it a new life. The objects have nothing to do with one another. Their only connection is taht they have ceased to have a purpose.

Each one is drawn on a sheet of paper of uniform size. The images are placed on the paper so that they have space around them, allowing the drawings to float in neutral space, out of their normal contexts. I have ten-eleven drawings up to now, and I want to have more to give a sense of quantity and an increased sense of time, through the accumulation of objects. The way in which the images are drawn is time-consuming. The long execution time of the drawings adds to the feeling of time that not only the accumulation of objects suggests, but also the sense of an unretrievable past that the object itself displays.

The objects appear to be things that could be found in the street, on the beach, in your apartment, or anywhere. In other words, they could be viewed as useless junk. Throughout our lives, we accumulate trash, things that fill our rooms and apartments. These things reflect the passing of time- the more time we live somewhere, the more things we seem to aquire. These things, or “junk”, in some ways measure the passage of time. My intention is to show the passage of time with a visual recording of this “junk”.

When we look at these drawing, we try to put an order to the chaos. (Miguel Angel Ramos- “orden es una herramienta humana.”) We try to make sense out of what we see. The objects tell stories of the past or raise questions about the past. They refer to a time that has been lost, that will never be recuperated. With this, I hope to create a feeling of nostalgia.


The actual plan for the display has yet to be resolved. There are many options. I could pin the drawings to the wall, covering as much of the surface area of the wall as possible. Another option is to create a sort of shelf, where the drawings are treated as scientific specimens on display, one after another in a row.
